Year in Review – Planet Partitioning North, 2015

Planet North have had an busy year, with the securing of large projects as well as their hard work being recognised through several awards. Recently the Leeds and Bromborough offices worked together to secure Planet North’s largest ever single contract to date, being chosen by Carillion Construction to provide the internal glazed partitioning to the new Royal Liverpool Hospital designed by HKS Architects. The team impressed Carillion by working with them to produce specific drawings based upon the proposed K30 specifications that met, and in some cases comfortably exceeded the desired acoustic and fire rated criteria. The hospital is due to be completed in 2017.

Scotland has continued to be a strong area for the northern team with several education projects secured and completed. Most recently the new Ayrshire College on the Kilmarnock Campus, where Planet will be working under McLaughlin & Harvey Contractors, supplying and installing Fireclear, Planet 100 and Planet 20. The campus is being designed by Keppie Architects who Planet North have a longstanding relationship with.

Planet North’s Atrium work at Sheffield Hallam Universities ‘Heart of the Campus’ was praised by RIBA this year. The project won a RIBA Yorkshire award for HLM Architects and Graham Construction back in September. RIBA highlighted the Atria in their article, mentioning it was the key part of the building success with the space being both stunning and “intensely animated by student life”.
