Sheffield Hallam University wins RIBA Yorkshire Awards 2015
Planet Partitioning are pleased to announce one of our projects has recently been awarded a RIBA Yorkshire Award 2015. Sheffield Hallam University’s ‘Heart of the Campus’ was built last year and has quickly become both the ‘metaphorical heart of the campus as well as the geographical one’.
Designed by HLM Architects, this three storey development was built on the university’s conservation site and has been engineered to be as energy efficient as possible. The building has cutting edge facilities such as ground floor heating pumps, solar panels and even rainwater harvesting.
This aesthetic of ‘bringing the outdoors in’ was supported by the atria Planet Partitioning designed. Working under Graham Construction, Planet designed, manufactured and installed the central space atrium over the three floors. Design challenges were met by Planet for the inclined Atrium screens and in creating the seating feature abutting the screens overlooking the atrium providing a hub for students to sit and read, relax or chat.
The Atria was highlighted by RIBA in their article, mentioning it was the key part of the building success with the space being both stunning and “intensely animated by student life”.
Planet would like to congratulate HLM Architects, Graham Construction and the rest of the contracting team for the award.
