Novotel, Canary Wharf
Built to celebrate the Novotal brand’s 50th anniversary, this new flagship hotel is housed in a 39-floor skyscraper in the heart of the City. The mammoth 17,000 sq ft complex includes 313 rooms, 26 individually designed suites, a state of the art gym and pool, nine meeting rooms, a restaurant, a bar, a coffee shop and a roof terrace with panoramic views across London.
Interior Designers, Koncept designed the interior to reflect Canary Wharf’s rich maritime past, with an industrial feel, incorporating exposed ducts, wooden floors and bespoke furniture, achieving a stunning hotel for ‘out of towners’ and Londoners to enjoy, with Forbes.com naming it ‘London’s coolest new hotel’.
Planet Partitioning worked with Inco Projects to provide an interior glazing solution for the gym and meeting room areas. To complement the industrial aesthetic of the hotel, LOFT100 was used throughout the project, paired with SonoTec double glazed doors with aluminium tracks applied in the same width and colour, providing a uniform style throughout
An additional priority for the client was high acoustic attenuation, for both the gym and meeting rooms. With LOFT100 achieving up to 56dB Rw and SonoTec up to 42dB Rw, the privacy of the hotel’s guests was ensured.
Exposed brickwork and glass panel screens, created a feature wall for the gym.
Working within a tight lead time in a narrow, tall building, has its challenges. Only two lifts were allocated for all sub-contractors, resulting in a busy site. Close liaison with Inco Project and other sub-contractors, arranging timed delivery slots, and constructing the partitioning on site to avoid having to move large items around the narrow corners, enabled Planet Partitioning to overcome these challenges and finish the installation in a safe manner. Novotel Canary Wharf won Hotel Interiors Project of the year at the Mixology awards 2017.
