PROJECT. OBJECTIVES

Client Bexley Council

The London Borough of Bexley was looking to create a modern civic office for its 1,250 staff, by extending and refurbishing the former Woolwich HQ.

Bennetts Associates asked Planet to provide a detailed specification for the internal glass solutions. Work included atrium and structural glazing, and single and double glazed partitioning.

OUR
SOLUTION.

At the heart of the atrium, Planet installed a mix of fire and non-fire-rated glass, and two-metre-high glass balustrades, which were fixed underneath the floor to achieve a minimalist design. On the first floor, back-painted glass panels conceal structural steel work.

PURE100 double-glazed partitioning and FireClear fire-rated glass partitioning features throughout the atrium but, as you look at the atrium, there is no visible difference between the fire and non-fire-rated glass. FireTec doors feature throughout communal areas.

A number of new offices have PURE20 single glazing. Planet Partitioning added bespoke tech panels within slimline doorframes to conceal the technology infrastructure for the roombooking system. Office doors are of painted timber and provide visual contrast to the glass partitioning.

With the existing building, Planet was responsible for adding fire screens that ensure EI60 fire integrity and insulation.

    PROJECT INSIGHTS.

Planet designed and constructed atrium screens to withstand a line load of 31N/m2.

The refurbishment of the Bexley Civic Centre allowed Bexley Council to bring staff from its four main offices together on one site.

Planet Partitions did a fantastic job for us on what was a challenging project, I look forward to working with them again
