A Day in the Life – Planet Midland’s Business Development Manager, Rob Duncan
In this series, we’ll be introducing you to members of our Company’s staff across all our regional offices. By showing you their typical day, you’ll get an insight into how the internal wheels of Planet grind and how we work to produce the best service and products possible to deliver on the promises we make to our clients.
In this instalment, meet Rob Duncan, Business Development Manager from our Planet Midlands office. Rob, who is an avid Northampton Town fan, has worked for Planet for 14 years.
“A typical day will start with me travelling the 10-mile trip from home, into the office at Tamworth, arriving just before 7 am. No two days are identical but I will usually start by checking any emails received from the previous evening and getting myself prepared for the day ahead.
I am often out on the road with our other BDM, to events such as ‘Meet the Buyer’. This entails networking over coffee and, if we’re lucky, bacon butties(!), and listening to presentations given by Contractors. These events enable us to make new contacts and create opportunities, as well as gaining valuable industry information and learning what we need, to be in a better position to quote for upcoming work.
Another aspect of the BDM role is attendance at Architects’ offices to give CPD presentations, to showcase our products and again build relationships, in the hope that Architects will choose to specify Planet’s products to prospective clients.
Once events have been attended and, hopefully, contacts and leads made, these are shared with the team back at base so that further enquiries can be made.
The role involves lots of traveling, networking and presenting, but is rewarding when opportunities are materialised and relationships strengthened to build our business.”
